Small businesses often ask for "an accountant" when they may need bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, financial reporting, cleanup, or advice. Those services overlap, but they are not interchangeable, and the wrong engagement can leave important work sitting between two providers.<\/p>\n\n\n

You should define which records, filings, decisions, and deadlines need support before comparing credentials or monthly prices.<\/p>

Bookkeeping usually focuses on recording and organizing transactions, reconciling accounts, managing supporting documents, and producing routine reports. Confirm the close schedule, reconciliation process, error-correction method, documentation standards, and reports you will receive. You should know who performs the work, who reviews it, and how questions are escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n
